Today we’re making mini drumettes with homemade BBQ sauce.

This recipe is easier than you might think. It’s worth a try and worth the credit you will get from your football crazy friends and family.

First, defrost one or two bags of frozen chicken drumettes.

Sizzle about 4 Tbs. of vegetable oil in a pot.

Chop up one large yellow onion into very small pieces and add to the oil.

Add one 10.75 oz. can of tomato puree & one 10.75 oz. of tomato paste

While sauce is simmering, continue to  stir and add the following:

1/4 cup of white vinegar

3 Tbs. dark brown sugar

1 Tbs. kosher salt

1 Tbs. fresh ground pepper

1 Tbs. smoked paprika (not regular paprika)

1 Tbs. chili powder

2 Tbs. molasses

IMG_3148

1/3 cup BBQ rub (I used Grill Mates Sweet & Smoky Rub)

1 – 1/2 cup cranberry juice

2 Tbs. yellow mustard

Place chicken drumettes into a deep pan or a crockpot.

Place crockpot on high for about 3-4 hours or in oven on 300 degrees for about 2 hours.

When finished, drumettes will be bubbling with steamy goodness and ready to eat with a thick, red BBQ sauce!

We topped our off with some homemade mini french fries. Touchdown!

So you don’t have to brown the drumettes or par-grill them? They just go into the sauce raw and kinda boil themselves? That is WAYYYY easy! Thanks Deanna!

Those look really good! I always make my wings in the crock pot, too– makes it so easy. Your sauce recipe sounds great– I’m sure my football crazy husband would like it! (and me, too)

If you were to make these in the crockpot, you might want to par-grill them but in the oven if left partially peeking out of the sauce, they brown very nicely.
